Episode 143: Naruto fights a Hollow.

Here ya go guys, merry Christmas, New Year, Chanukah, Winter Solstice, and various holidays this is being released in the midst of.
This episode is only a week late, which isn't too bad compared to our recent delays and such.

This episode is actually really good, except the end where everyone goes crazy.
The entire story of Alishie and Zaruchimu is kept from the manga, except that the other story including Umagon and Fango does not take place at the same time. Also one of Zaruchimu's spells in the manga isn't used, because that sequence was done in the Gyaron fight with Aramu Basukarugu in order for Gyaron's fight to be interesting at all.
The flashback is intact completely, though there's a bit of censorship. As you can see, they made Raushin Moe's nose smaller.

The ending is completely different, but I won't spoil it completely. Just go watch it and you can guess how it's different from the manga. I'll go through it in the discussion thread.

Manga's being worked on, once the remaining episodes are done being translated we'll do Movie 2 and the manga will probably start getting finished around then. Though plenty of it is almost done besides checking and editing.

This episode got delayed because the guy who had been actively doing translation checks for us got too busy and stopped coming online. Then every person who could've substituted him were all busy, too.
In the end we got someone else very reliable who would be able to do the checks consistantly and we can rely on, me. Who knew...

Besides that, it shouldn't take too long between episodes, I'm hoping. And once strangerataru is able to, he's going to be sctively translating the manga. So that shouldn't take as long either. Plus we've got plenty already almost done besides checking, which is a long and boring process usually causing it to be delayed in lieu of working on the anime.

Anyway, this episode, 142. In this episode Alishie and Riya fight Gyaron, the metal demon working under Riou. In the manga, this fight doesn't take place. Gyaron's fight was partially done when Raiku broke his hand and the anime overtook the manga at the end of 2005/beginning of 2006. However, Riya and Alishie's fight, which was originally against Zaruchimu and Fango, fighting with Umagon, was finished by then, and is largly all there. The part about Alishie's ability as a warrior and such is canonical and continues into the next episode.

Gyaron, on the other hand, is nothing like his counterpart which was cruel and scary. As well, his partner's name was changed. In the manga its' "Jet" though in the anime it is "Harry" for some reason. People usually assume Jet is his last name and Harry is his first name, and Gyaron calls him the other name in the manga, though this is just speculation. He's the only character whose name is changed.
The spells Gyaron uses, except the first one (Amu Basukarugu), are all non-canon (Besides his ultimate spell, which he doesn't use here). It could be that the anime writers had preliminary ideas for how Gyaron fought, but was changed in the manga, or else they're just original.

Regardless, this episode is very interesting and the plot isn't distorted a lot from the manga. These events were originally part of a fight against a different opponent, is all. So go watch it...

I was hoping to get this episode out on time, a week from the last one, but bayoab took extra time to finish V21, finally, so it took a week longer.
This episode continues the filler ending of the anime, and contains just one line that was actually in the manga, which was "Umagon's power is not just flames. His natural power is speed." Fango and Jedun's characters are completely discarded for these versions of the "grunt villains helping the main villain." Though Fango at least uses all of his spells, they're all weakened because he never recieves the upgrade he gets in the manga. Jedun only uses 2 of his spells, and "Gunobion" is pronounced kinda oddly, though that's the spell being used. Both are weaker versions that the ones the manga uses. Also they've given Jedun a big hump, and made his partner have zero detail.
As well, this episode is about Umagon and Karudio not being able to fight together. Sauza and Karudio are made into much less complex characters, and Umagon and Sunbeam complain a lot more.
In the manga, a fight between these characters doesn't take place. Umagon and Riya fight against Zaruchimu and Fango at the same time,
Jedun fights with Rodeux much later. Which is why they were basicly canon fodder, because their fights occurred in the manga after the anime ended.
Also this episode is the start of where Ohtani Ikue was replaced because she was on maternity leave, so Gash's voice is different. That continues to the end of the anime.

On the bright side, it's still a cool episode and as I said they use the real spells and a few elements of the original. You can take it as an "alternative timeline" and keep it as interesting as that.

As for the manga, yes this is way late. Really, it was at "done except for final edits and checks" for about 5 months, and since then a lot more manga's been done. It's just bayaob, who is in charge of all final editing as well as translation, hasn't had time to do the whole thing until last week. I've said this before, but we'll have much more time to work on the manga once the anime is finished, which we're working on making sure it doesn't get delayed anymore.
V21 ranges from the end of the Keys battle to when Alishie wakes up and attack Zaruchimu. I think the second half of 128 to 133. But we've got more than a volume's worth at the "final check and edits" level, so we'll be able to get at a better speed eventually.

Update: There's been a delay because the translation cheker and the people who were backup all got busy at once, for the last 3 weeks. Though things seem to be alright now, it won't take too much longer.

Though I stopped deleting the old individual torrents because it seemed like there was little point to that, so it's really only for the sake of efficiency, now.

This episode did take a while, though I think we now about have all our problems hammered out and have enough of a lead on the next few episodes to avoid any further big delays.
As for the manga, it's got plenty of it ALMOST done but the last stages aren't done yet, for a lot of it, but some of that should get done soon, v21 at least, despite how late that is. Like I've said, once the anime is done we'll have more time to focus on the manga.

As for this episode, we are in one of the filler stories that have manifest from the anime ending before the manga. Rodeux is put here because in the manga his second-appearance wasn't until much much later, after the anime ended. And Wonlei's story in the manga is completely different. Still, a few of the concepts from the manga remain, and what's replaced it isn't so bad. Though the concept of "aiding opponents by screwing around the room" didn't happen in the manga at all. But it's still a very good fight with some good visuals. And more parts of the manga occur in following episodes, as well.

Ok, finally all done. There's a lengthy explanation for why this release has taken so long, and now you're gonna hear it. First I'm gonna write about the actual episode, though.

We finished 139 really quickly and all the delays were with 138, 139 got done at the same time as 138 give or take 3 hours so you know how that happened.

The end of 138 marks the end of the strict-canon to the manga of the Gash Bell anime. The main omission is that Kiyomaro doesn't put on a lock on his hacks into Faudo's system, and the rest of the plot is able to be shrunk down by the simple solution that Riou can just shut down the computer.
From here all the fights change dramatically. Rodeux's story took place after the anime ended, so his character become completely terrible, as it was one of the best character stories of the Faudo arc. Wonlei's story is made much worse, with tons of talking and sentimental exposition which is all somewhat in the manga. Though his fight is nothing like the manga and is far less interesting, dramatic, anything, and only shares a tiny resemblance.
The structure of the second half of the Faudo arc is pretty much different, they don't split up into groups as they do here, except for Earth and Karudio. It only splits off more and more from here as they shrink down fights that lasted an entire volume to one episode, then make up filler plots for the chapters that take place after the manga ended.

However, we'll get to scanlating the manga actively once we've finished the anime completely, so look foward to that.

Now for the explanation of the delay, since it's been 6 weeks since the last release.
The delay for the last release had been because neji- and bayoab were on vacation at the end of the summer. Since before 137 was released I was trying to get translation checks on this episode, which we get for particularly hard to hear or difficult lines. There are usually in the range of 10-30. Our regular TLCer had left months ago (Chibi`Ayame) and we've been subbing in with Foolio from Kaizoku-Fansubs. You might've noticed if you have a lot of free time or read the credits or something. Well after those two if both of them are busy there are few options for us and I need to ask other people who work on completely different projects who have no relation to Gash at all. This time not one person was available at all for weeks. Eventually I got Caylem to do it, and a task that waited 5 weeks to be done was finished in about 20 minutes, after everyone else kept not being able to help, saying they maybe could later, and then not doing it.

Then after that it needs the final QCing, which generally involves the two main editors neji- and bayoab, as I mentioned. Neji was going to do it, then after a week he hadn't, then just as I was about to skip him (which I really try to avoid, because he's our main editor), he comes back and said he'd do it in a day or two, he'd had to get his laptop repaired and he was getting it back then. Then he didn't come back, and yesterday he sent a message that we should skip him for 138 and 139 because he was stalled because of something else. So bayoab did his QCs then.

Ok, there's that, and I was able to get a translation checker. This one freelancer E[m]ess told me about Sonic_Sabbath who was willing to help out for $5 an episode, which I do sometimes, since we still have a lot of money in donations. So he did the TL checks of 139 in 2 days, of which there were three times as many lines compared to 138. 138 had 11 lines marked to be checked and 139 had 30. So he should be able to help out for now. 140 is about up to the TLC stage. K. That's it. It won't take that long this time, I promise.
